History
It has been an aim of the directors of the Australian Girls Choir for many years to offer a unique dance education program for girls in addition to the dance element of the AGC curriculum.
Judith Curphey, the Founder and Artistic Director of the Australian Girls Choir, wrote “start the choir” in her diary as the thing to do on March 7, 1984 and we’re incredibly pleased that she had the vision, ability and courage to do so. The Australian School of Performing Arts has evolved from this dream and we are very proud that we now offer high quality performing arts education and choral tuition via AGC activities as well as Dale Pope’s fun, fitness-based dance routines in AGD. Our experienced instructors work with AGC alumni, who have been trained by us in administration and dance roles, to provide the most positive learning environment possible to our girls.
It is wonderful to now be offering Aus Girls Dance classes in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney. Many parents of younger girls are taking up the double offering of AGC and AGD on Saturdays and we love that their daughters will be challenged, invigorated and extremely well looked after all morning.
For dancers of all ages and abilities, dance is an energetic release of emotion and spirit; a chance to physically and creatively explore space and boundaries. As enthusiastic performing arts educators, we are passionate about teaching young girls the benefits of physical self-confidence, body awareness, flexibility, strength, and most of all fitness. All of these elements are encapsulated in the Raw Energy Dance (RED) program, devised by Dale Pope, on which Aus Girls Dance classes are based.
We sincerely hope that you, as parents and dancers, will share our excitement in all the wonderful plans we have for Aus Girls Dance in 2010 and the years to follow.
